“THE FUTURE IS IN YOUR CHOICE AND IS DETERMINED BY TODAY”, MINISTER OF STATE DR. ISAAC MUNYAKAZI SAYS IN CAREER GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING TALKS IN NYAMAGABE, HUYE AND GISAGARA SCHOOLS, SOUTHERN PROVINCE.

On Thursday 2nd May up to 3rd 2019, Minister of State Dr. Isaac Munyakazi and Director General of Rwanda Education Board Dr. Ndayambaje Irénée paid a visit in TTC Mbuga (Nyamagabe District), Ecole Notre Dame de la Providence Karubanda (Huye District) and TTC Save (Gisagara District) in Southern Province.

The general objective of the visit was to create career awareness among students and explore their full potential, and mobilizing the S3 students to join the TTCs (Teacher Training Colleges).

Career Guidance and counseling has always been important but only recently got recognition it deserves by the shake of attention from Ministry of Education through Rwanda Education Board.

Referring to theoretical review of the different researches, Career Guidance and Counseling in education is about equipping students with the necessary knowledge, skills and values to make informed decisions at each key of education stage for successful transition from school to further education or work, and hence to manage their career pathways and lifelong learning throughout their lives. With career guidance and counseling knowledge, social emotional competencies and qualities of proactivity, adaptability and resilience are developed to prepare students for the 21st century.

In discussion with the students from different schools in Southern Province Minister of State, Dr. Isaac Munyakazi says that for the first time the Government of Rwanda is handing career’s choices over to the students:” It is first time to see senior officials meeting students to discuss on career guidance, please it is the right time to utilize the opportunity you have been given.” he said

Minister of State, Dr. Isaac Munyakazi also mentioned that choosing a career is the critical time to be skeptical about, due to its impact on someone’s future life, “the future is in your hands, and is determined by the choice you make today.” he added

Rwanda’s Vision 2020 aims at moving Rwanda from “an agriculture based economy to a knowledge-based society, therefore well educated people working in the right place will serve towards this target; in his address to the students, Director General of Rwanda Education Board, Dr. Ndayambaje Irénée says:” Rwanda is in the transformation process towards to knowledge based economy country, and that can only be achieved through the right choices you make today, and you will never regret.” he said

Director General of Rwanda Education Board, Dr. Ndayamabaje Irénée said that career choice should be done by the student her/himself, and the ignore other classmate influences,” if you want to choose the right career, please decide by basing on what you like and your winning side in your studies.” he added

Minister of State, Dr. Isaac Munyakazi told the students that Rwanda is a landlocked country but the aim for development is too high,” we have no petrol, no other resources but the development of the country will depend on you through choosing the teaching career.” he said

In discussion with students in Southern Province, Minister of State Dr. Isaac Munyakazi says:” from today forward, teaching career is respected and it is up to you to maximize your potential in this profession.” he mentioned

Teaching career is one of the world’s most rewarding professions. It is a way to impact knowledge and foster the success of the next generation, and on the other hand, it also impacts the economy of the country in next generations, Minister of State Dr. Isaac Munyakazi says: “Teaching Career is the foundation of everything, every successful person in this country, be it doctor, engineer, army officer…etc. has benefited much from a teacher.” he said

Teaching career allows you to help individuals very directly and see the results first-hand as your students develop and grow, and that contributes a lot to teachers’ satisfaction, “Colonel Rugazora Emmanuel says:” if you choose the career of helping others just like teaching career you be lifted to your desired satisfaction, and God will also support you.” he said

It has been said that there is nothing more rewarding than knowing and seeing the evidence that you have made an impact on someone’s life. Sometimes, teachers cannot physically see the appreciation and impact they have made but they just know that it’s there. This reward on its own drive them to be the best teachers they can be for themselves, their school community, and their beloved students; Minister of State Dr. Isaac Munyakazi says: “A teacher is a special person, therefore you cannot reward your teacher in terms of money per se.” he added

Teaching career creates the celebration memories to every teacher who impacted at least one person; Minister of State Dr. Isaac Munyakazi says:” a teacher is a transformer who transforms human beings from nothing to something, all us here, I Minister, Director General, your head teacher and your matron in many years back we passed through the hands of teachers, we have been teachers and we are proud of who we are and we are happy that we made a choice of joining teaching career. “he emphasized

There is an old saying, “The pen is mightier than the sword.’ Ideas written have changed the destiny of men and nations for better or worse, that is the indicator on how reading can be the source of power to determine someone’s destiny. In discussion with students at TTC Mbuga, Director General of Rwanda Education Board, Dr. Ndayambaje Irénée told the students that reading is the shortcut, and the sign of being a knowledgeable teacher; “We have realized that the culture of reading is still very low in this TTC, and if you don’t read you cannot become a good teacher we desire.” he said

Minister of State, Dr. Isaac Munyakazi told the students from different schools in Southern Province that the Government has prioritized TTCs (Teacher Training Colleges) as the way of designing the transformed Rwanda we want,” TTCs are going to be given a special attention and students of TTC from today forward will be our priority as the strategy to achieve the Quality of Education we want.” he said

In discussion with the students, Minister of State, Dr. Isaac Munyakazi also mentioned that Government of Rwanda through Ministry of Education has decided to bring back the respect of the profession,” Teaching Career should be respected because you cannot achieve the Quality of Education without thinking about the teacher, whatever we are doing in our education sector, the teacher is also our priority.” he mentioned

In a way of setting the bar higher in education sector, many policies and changes have been put in place as the strategy to have the Quality of Education; Minister of State Dr. Isaac Munyakazi explained to the students of TTC on how Government is doing incredible things about TTCs such the teacher-salary increment of 10%, free-scholarships for the TTC’s graduates, discount of 50% on school-fees of TTC’s students, establishment of modernized laboratories, and the remolding of demonstrations schools to be implemented imminently,…among many other incentives in education sector.

In his address to the students, Director General of Rwanda Education Board, Dr.Ndayambje Irénée told the TTC students that the CBC is their breast to be consumed, and it has changed for their good where periods were allocated longer from 40 up to 60 periods for the purpose of achieving the Quality of Education. He also mentioned that comprehensive assessment from school level up to national level will be implement very soon as the strategy to improve the Quality of Education.

In conclusion of the discussions with students from different schools in Southern Province, Minister of State Dr. Isaac Munyakazi told the students that someone’s life is unique.” Everyone has his or her own way of succeeding in life, if you are to choose the career for your good future; please, do not copy from someone else except you!” he underlined.

It was the right time for the S3 students from different schools from Gisagara District who were brought together at TTC Save to reload the thinking on their career choice.

A young lady from Ecole Notre Dame de la Providence Karubanda was very argumentative on career Guidance and counseling discussions.

A young lady from one of the schools from Gisagara District is interacting with Minister of State at TTC Save and asking very curious question about the career choice.

Students from TTC Mbuga were happy to hear that TTCs are the priority in education sector.

After the career choice decision of the students of Gisagara District briught together at TTC Save, Director General of Rwanda Education Board, Dr. Ndayambaje Irénée is entertaining with them.

 

 Students of Ecole Notre Dame de la Povidence Karubanda are very stick to the Rwandan culture.

 

 The right career choice creates happiness at the end.
