“IF YOU NEED QUALITY OF EDUCATION, TTCs SHOULD BE THE PRIORITY.” DIRECTOR GENERAL OF RWANDA EDUCATION BOARD DR. NDAYAMBAJE IRENEE SAYS IN THE MEETING WITH STUDENTS OF TTC KIRAMBO IN BURERA DISTRICT.

On 9th May 2019, Director General of Rwanda Education Board, Dr. Ndayambaje Irénée paid a visit to TTC Kirambo in Burera District.

Some people say a good teacher helps us to become human being in the society and good citizen of the country, what we become in life depends on teachers. Therefore, the future development of any nation is in the hands of the teachers. However that cannot be achieved if the teacher is not given the special attention. It was within that spirit the Director General of Rwanda Education Board, Dr. Ndayambaje visited the students of TTC Kirambo in Burera District.

In his address to the students of TTC Kirambo, Director General of Rwanda Education Board, Dr. Ndayambaje Irénée said that the Government of Rwanda has been proactive in the education sector by setting its strategic direction and adopting policies in critical areas of the education system whereby in line with the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) on education particularly, the Government of Rwanda has achieved high in terms of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) especially goal no:4 “call for Quality Education for All” that create an importance to provide special attention to preservice teacher education: for example TTC in Rwandan Basic Education context.

Laboratory is an important means of instruction not only in science but also in languages, the laboratory has been given a central and distinctive role in education. Director General of Rwanda Education Board, Dr. Ndayambaje Irénée said that starting from next academic year the modernized equipment’s for laboratories are coming, “ we need students who are able to put scientific theories into practices, and we also need students who are fluent in languages that’s why even laboratories for languages courses will be donated to your school.” he said

Speaking to the students of TTC Kirambo, Director General of Rwanda Education Board, Dr. Ndayambaje Irénée said that Government of Rwanda through Ministry of Education is paying a special attention to TTCs, “Teaching career is going to be more respected, becoming a TTC student it’s going to be narrow road where only few courageous and brilliant students will manage to walk on.” he added

English Philosopher, John Locke said “a new born is like a clean slate without any content, it is the duty of teachers to impart the right education to children from tender age, so that they grow up to be responsible citizens of the world”; and the Government of Rwanda through Ministry of Education is strengthening the Quality of Education from the grass-root level of education where pre-primary education is being monitored.

Director General of Rwanda Education Board, Dr. Ndayambaje Irénée said: “A teacher is the foundation of everything; a teacher transforms a person from nobody to somebody, therefore as the way of recognizing your role in our education system, Pre-Primary schools should employ the best qualified and specialized teachers graduated from TTCs.” he mentioned

In discussions with the student of TTC Kirambo, Director General of Rwanda Education Board, Dr. Ndayambaje Irénée said that the respect of teachers will never be undermined, “If you want to build a strong house, you start from its foundation, and that is the reason why from next academic year onwards Government of Rwanda will contribute 50% on your school-fees as the way to motivate and recognize your future impact on our education sector.” he said

Some people say that teachers are not usually paid much, however they don’t teach just because they are greedy; they believe that young people’s lives are greatly enriched by the ability and desire to read and write well.

Even though there are many kind of rewards to teachers like student’s appreciation, parents’ appreciation and the satisfaction of impacting the future generations, the Government of Rwanda has thought of improving the wellbeing of teachers by 10% increment on their salaries; “We will never stop supporting teachers, the Government has increased 10% on their salaries, and that is not the end we shall continue to recognize the value of teachers on the impact they do play on the Quality of Education we want.” he added

In his address, the Director General of Rwanda Education Board, Dr. Ndayambaje Irénée said that Comprehensive Assessment will be implemented very soon, and it will contribute a lot on the Quality of Education we need, “As much as we talk about Quality of Education, we should also measure the teaching and learning outcomes through Comprehensive Assessments from school level up to national level.” he said

Director General of Rwanda Education Board, Dr. Ndayambaje Irénée continued by encouraging the students of TTC Kirambo to participate in East African Essay’s Writing Competition as the way of improving their skills in languages, and more specifically in English, “There is an East African Essay’s Writing Competition which is waiting for you in next academic year, please do not hesitate to apply and you will gain knowledge and skills in English language, but of course the competition is in three languages such as English, French and Swahili.” he added

Speaking to TTC Kirambo students, Director General of REB, Dr. Ndayambaje Irénée mentioned that very soon the placement of teachers will be coordinated and monitored by Ministry of Education in partnership with Ministry of Local Government and Ministry of Public Service and labour as the way of solving different issues which have been caused by teacher’s placement in some years back.

In conclusion of the meeting with students, Director General of Rwanda Education Board gave the advice to the students by saying that “There are three components of CBC (Competence Based Curriculum) which are: Knowledge, Attitude and Values; based on those components you are supposed to be exemplary in the society, and the future of Rwanda we desire is in your hands.” he underlined
