“You are welcome in teaching career”, DG REB-Dr. Ndayambaje Irénée says in the launch of teacher recruitment exercise in Musanze District.

On 14th July 2020, the Director General of Rwanda Education Board, Dr. Ndayambaje Irénée together with Mayor of Musanze District Madam Jeannine Nuwumuremyi launched the teacher recruitment exercise.

The vision of the education sector in regard to teacher management is “to be a leading provider of teacher related services in addition to provision of highly motivated, qualified and competent teachers in Rwanda.” This vision is in response to an existing challenge to the Ministry of Education of “producing sufficient, motivated, committed teachers, and opting teachers to stay in the teaching profession.” And it is also in line with the Presidential Order No 064/01 of 16/03/2020 establishing special statutes governing teachers in nursery, primary, secondary and technical and vocational schools.

In Rwanda, tremendous progress has been made in increasing access to education; the prevailing challenge is to improve quality and learning outcomes. Some of the barriers to attaining learning outcomes include: High student-teacher ratio of 59:1; this calls for progressive strategies to reduce the ratio to acceptable standards (46:1) by 2024; Hence creating teaching gaps in schools. As a solution to improve the quality of basic education; MINEDUC has embarked on construction of more than 22 thousands new classrooms aimed at reducing overcrowding and long distances travelled by learners. It is evident that there is also need for more teachers in the teaching force.

In the launch of teacher recruitment exercise, Director General of Rwanda Education Board, Dr. Ndayambaje Irénée welcomed the candidates and appreciated the collaboration will Local Government to have the exams in a well supervised and coordinated manner.

Mayor of Musanze District, Mrs. Jeannine Nuwumuremyi reiterated the District commitment to enforce security and integrity of these exams.

Teacher recruitment tests were administered in 29 districts across the country from 14th to 17 July 2020. Rusizi District is expected to be given a special consideration when the lock down in that District ends.
